Issued to mark the fiftieth anniversary of Misr Insurance Company, one of Egypt's oldest and largest state-owned insurers, founded in 1934 as part of the broader Misr Group — the industrial and financial conglomerate established by Talaat Harb to build Egyptian economic independence from foreign capital. The commemorative program of the early 1980s saw the Central Bank of Egypt produce a run of .720 silver pound issues tied to institutional anniversaries, most with modest mintages aimed at collectors rather than circulation.
