Obverse description Printed in blue on an orange-brown underprint, the obverse carries at upper left a vignette of Britannia seated, holding a spear and a shield, set within an ornate scrollwork cartouche surmounted by a crown. The denomination numeral "1" appears in an elaborate guilloche roundel at upper right, with "One" in script lettering within a further guilloche panel at lower left. The promise-to-pay legend and issuer title are rendered in italic script across the centre, with the serial number printed in red at upper right and lower left.
