Jersey's pound coin series of the 1985 issue drew on the island's parish system, each denomination paired with a specific parish church. St. Clement is the smallest and most southerly parish on the island, its church dating to the 12th century with notable medieval frescoes that survived the Reformation largely intact. The silver proof version of this issue was produced for collectors alongside the cupro-nickel circulation strike, with mintages kept deliberately low to support the island's growing numismatic program during the 1980s.
