Part of a broader Jersey series pairing parish church dedications with pound coinage, the St. Clement issue honors the island's smallest parish — a low-lying southeastern corner of Jersey historically vulnerable to coastal flooding and French raids. The gold proof version was struck in extremely limited numbers for collectors, as Jersey's proof gold output in the mid-1980s routinely ran to mintages well under a thousand pieces.
KM#62b distinguishes the gold striking from the copper-nickel circulation issue and the silver proof variant, both sharing the same dies.
