St. Brelade is one of Jersey's twelve parishes, each of which received its own reverse design in this 1984 proof series — a deliberate exercise in celebrating the island's parish system, which dates to the Norman administrative divisions of the 11th century. Jersey issued the parish pound series specifically for the collector market, with individual mintages kept low across all twelve variants.
KM#61a distinguishes the silver proof from the base-metal circulation strike, KM#61.
