| Reverse description | The Arms of Jersey, consisting of a baroque-style heraldic shield bearing the three golden leopards passant guardant of Normandy arranged in pale, centrally placed in the field. The shield is rendered in high relief with ornate decorative mantling and foliate embellishments above and below. A beaded border frames the design throughout the periphery. The arc legend BAILIWICK OF JERSEY runs along the upper portion of the coin, while ONE POUND appears along the lower portion, with pellet stops flanking the shield at the sides. |

Jersey's pound coinage sits outside the UK monetary system entirely — the island issues its own currency under the authority of the States of Jersey, not the Crown or the Bank of England. The 1992 proof issue coincided with a period when Jersey's financial sector was expanding rapidly, making the island increasingly conscious of projecting an image of institutional solidity through its official coinage. Silver proofs were struck in limited numbers for collector distribution, with standard circulation strikes produced separately in nickel-brass.
