Additional information

Jersey's 1993 pound series celebrated the island's maritime heritage at a moment when the States were leaning hard into commemorative coinage as a revenue stream — a practice that accelerated sharply after decimalisation in 1971 freed the island from strict parity obligations with UK coinage types. The brigantine, a working rig common in Channel Island trading routes through the 18th and 19th centuries, carried Jersey merchants to Newfoundland cod banks and Iberian ports for generations.

KM#90 is one of several designs issued that year within the same pound format, which limits individual mintage pressure on any single type.
