Opmerkingen

Clydesdale Bank was founded in Glasgow in 1838 with significant backing from the British Linen Bank, and its early note-issuing activity reflected the peculiarly robust Scottish chartered banking tradition — one that survived repeated Westminster attempts to curtail provincial note issue south of the border. The £1 note, long abolished in England, remained a staple of Scottish everyday commerce throughout this entire period.

Pick 181 spans nearly four decades, during which the bank underwent substantial ownership changes, coming under Midland Bank control in 1919 — just two years before this series closed.
