The central medallion contains a map of Africa surrounded by wildlife and landscape scenery, while the two flanking medallions each bear the numeral 1. The bank name THE NATIONAL BANK OF SOUTH AFRICA LIMITED is inscribed across the design, with the denomination ONE and POUND repeated in the side panels, and the printer's imprint of Waterlow & Sons visible at the lower margin. |
