Obverse description Central field bears a Persian inscription arranged in multiple lines reading 'Sana julus 45 Shah Alam badshah' (In the 45th regnal year of Emperor Shah Alam), with a spiky rosette ornament incorporated within the 'seen' letterform of the word 'julus'. The script is Nasta'liq-style Arabic, typical of Mughal-era coinage conventions adopted by the Bengal Presidency. The frozen regnal year 45 reflects the Presidency's practice of continuing the nominal authority of the Mughal emperor Shah Alam II long after his actual reign. The legend is contained within the round flan with no border beading explicitly noted.
