| Obverse description | Central field features a small shield bearing horizontal bars (the arms of Riga), enclosed within a beaded or linear inner circle. Surrounding the shield is a circular Latin legend reading WIL · VO : MAG · LI ·, an abbreviated inscription for Wilhelm von Fürstenberg, Magister Livoniae (Master of Livonia). The lettering is rendered in Gothic-influenced characters typical of mid-sixteenth century Livonian coinage. The overall design is characteristic of the small hammered pfennig denomination, with the legend running continuously around the shield device. |
