Albrecht II ruled the Duchy of Austria from 1330 until his death in 1358, earning the epithet "the Lame" from a paralytic condition that left him bedridden for much of his later reign. Despite this, his administration oversaw a period of monetary consolidation in Vienna, with small silver pfennige like this one forming the backbone of everyday trade in the eastern Alpine markets. The Vienna mint operated under ducal control throughout his tenure, distinguishing its output from the rival Styrian issues circulating simultaneously in the region.
