El Banco Argentino was one of several provincial commercial banks operating in Argentina before the Banco Nacional absorbed or displaced most of them in the 1870s and 1880s. This note denominates in pesos plata boliviana, a unit tied to the Bolivian silver peso that circulated widely in the interior provinces — Rosario's commercial position along the Paraná made such cross-border monetary conventions entirely practical rather than eccentric.
ABNC printed the full series from New York, a routine arrangement for South American provincial banks of the period that lacked domestic security printing infrastructure. The PS prefix in the Pick catalog signals provincial or private issue status, and this entire Banco Argentino series remains thinly documented in surviving form.
