| Vorderseitenbeschreibung | Green intaglio print on white cotton paper. At centre, a pastoral vignette shows a farmer watering a horse at a trough, with cattle and a rural landscape in the background; to the lower left, a large rhea (ñandú) stands as a secondary vignette. The bank title EL BANCO ARGENTINO arcs across the upper portion in bold letterpress, with the denomination UN PESO in large gothic letters at centre. A guilloche border of repeated UNO ornaments frames the top and bottom edges, and the imprint of the Compañía Americana de Billetes de Banco, Nueva York appears along the lower margin. |

The Banco Argentino was one of several provincial commercial banks operating in Rosario during the 1860s, a period when Argentina had no central bank and note-issuing rights were effectively distributed among private institutions chartered at the provincial level. The denomination in Pesos Plata Boliviana — Bolivian silver pesos — reflects how thoroughly that coin dominated commercial transactions in the interior provinces at the time, particularly along the Paraná river trade routes. Federal Argentine currency was not yet a practical reality.
The American Bank Note Company in New York was printing for a substantial roster of South American issuers by this date. PS1531 is among the earlier Argentine provincial commissions they handled.
