Daniel González y Ca. was a private merchant house operating in Mendoza, not a chartered bank. Notes like this one were issued by commercial firms throughout the Argentine interior during the 1860s because formal banking infrastructure was essentially absent outside Buenos Aires. The provincial money supply ran largely on private credit instruments, and a one-peso denomination denominated in Bolivian silver — the plata boliviana — reflects how deeply that coinage had penetrated the Cuyo region's circulation, filling the vacuum left by chronic shortages of Argentine specie.
The PS# prefix in the Pick catalogue places it among speculative or private issues, and genuine surviving examples of Mendoza merchant paper from this period are genuinely uncommon.
