Obverse description The Mexican national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus growing from a rock in a lake, grasping a serpent in its beak and right talon. The design is rendered in the modern style introduced in the 1970s, with fine feather detail and a decorative wreath of oak and laurel branches framing the base. The circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery, separated from the inner design by a beaded border running the full circumference.
