Pattern coinage from the Casa de Moneda rarely escapes the mint's own archives, and the 1979 brass trial pieces were struck specifically to test alloy substitutes as silver had long since been abandoned for circulation coinage and rising base-metal costs were forcing the mint to evaluate cheaper alternatives. PL#146C sits in a small family of compositional trials from this period, most of which never advanced beyond internal review.
