| Obverse description | The Mexican national arms depicted at center: an eagle displayed facing left, wings raised, perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rock amid a lagoon, grasping a serpent in its beak and right talon. The eagle is rendered in fine engraved detail with fully spread wings. A wreath of oak and laurel branches frames the base of the central device. The circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering, with a dentilated border running along the coin's rim. |

| Reverse description | The bold right-facing portrait bust of José María Morelos y Pavón, hero of Mexican independence, occupies the central field in high relief — a distinctive large, rounded effigy that gave the coin its popular nickname 'Cacheton' (chubby-cheeked). The legend MORELOS arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination UN PESO, the date, mintmark Mo, weight 14 Gr., and fineness 0.500 are inscribed in the lower field and exergue, all in Latin script. |
