Reverse description The draped bust of José María Morelos y Pavón, the celebrated Mexican independence leader and Roman Catholic priest, faces right, wearing his characteristic clerical vestments with an ornate collar and a cap. The mintmark Mo appears to the left of the portrait. The bust is flanked by a wreath composed of oak branches to the left and laurel branches to the right, tied at the base, all set within a beaded border. No additional legend appears on the reverse, the design relying entirely on the iconic effigy and symbolic wreath.
