Obverse description Facing crowned royal bust of King Henry III rendered in the stylised Romanesque manner characteristic of Short Cross coinage. The king is depicted with a bearded face, large almond-shaped eyes, and a crown surmounted by three fleurs-de-lis or pellets. The bust is flanked by two sceptres or the suggestion of robes, and is surrounded by a beaded inner circle. The circumferential legend in uncial letters reads HENRICVS REX, identifying the monarch.
