| Reverse description | Short voided cross pattée extending to the inner beaded circle, dividing the field into four quarters, each containing a cluster of three pellets arranged triangularly — a defining feature of the Short Cross coinage introduced in 1180. The moneyer and mint inscription is arranged in two lines across the horizontal arms of the cross, reading outward into the legend. The reverse legend names the moneyer and mint of issue. The design is executed in the flat, geometric style characteristic of Angevin hammered silver pennies. |
