Obverse description Crowned facing bust of King Henry II in a stylised, flat-relief hammered style, depicted with a small face, holding a sceptre before the right shoulder. The legend ҺENRICVS RE X surrounds the effigy, rendered in a characteristically angular medieval Roman script with a square-form E and/or C, round M, and an irregular number of hair curls flanking the crown. The bust is contained within a beaded inner circle, with the royal title distributed around the outer field. Class 1a characteristics include the particularly small facial features and the specific letterform variants noted above.
