Reverse description A bold voided short cross extends to the inner beaded circle, dividing the field into four quadrants, each containing a quatrefoil of four pellets arranged around a central pellet. The cross arms are plain and unadorned, terminating at the beaded border. The moneyer and mint legend encircles the design in the outer field, reading from the upper left. The overall design is characteristic of the English Short Cross coinage introduced in 1180, with the geometric symmetry of the pellet groups providing the principal decorative element.
