The removal of "Emperor of India" from George VI's royal titles followed Indian and Pakistani independence in 1947, forcing a wholesale redesign of British colonial coinage across dozens of territories. Jamaica's penny was updated accordingly, with the abbreviated title appearing on issues from 1950 onward. The king died in February 1952, making that year's Jamaican pennies among the last coins struck in his name for this territory.
