Beschrijving voorzijde Central field dominated by the elaborate tughra of Sultan Osman III, rendered in the traditional Ottoman calligraphic style with sweeping horizontal loops (beyze), ascending vertical strokes (tuğ), and the characteristic leftward curved tail (hançer). The tughra is set against a plain field and surrounded by a border of small radiating dashes or pellets near the rim. The design occupies the full face of the flan, with the calligraphic monogram serving as the sole device in accordance with Ottoman numismatic convention.

Aanvullende informatie

Osman III ruled for fewer than three years (1754–1757), making his coinage among the scarcest of any eighteenth-century Ottoman sultan. He was known primarily for his hostility toward non-Muslims and his prohibition of non-Muslim dress that mimicked Ottoman styles — a reign defined more by internal social restriction than any military or economic ambition. The Kostantiniyye mint continued producing these small billon pieces at low weights already reflecting decades of debasement in the akçe and para series.
