Obverse description Helvetia seated facing right in high relief, wearing a flowing robe and laurel crown, holding an upright sword in her right hand and resting her left arm on a shield bearing the Swiss cross. Twenty-three five-pointed stars arranged around the inner border, an oak stump to the right, and Alpine mountains visible in the left background. The legend HELVETIA appears in the exergue, with the engraver's signature visible at lower right.

Reverse description The Matterhorn dominates the central field in bold relief, rising sharply against a mirror-polished background. Two alpine chalets are depicted in the lower foreground. The Argor-Heraeus mintmark appears at lower left, with the denomination 1 UNZE and date 1987 inscribed in the exergue, and the fineness 999.9 to the right.
