Reverse description Central field features the crowned lion of Gotland passant, depicted in a crude but vigorous medieval style, surrounded by a beaded inner circle. The reverse legend in uncial Latin characters runs along the outer border, partially visible due to the irregular flan and variable strike. The crowned lion motif is characteristic of Gotlandic municipal coinage of the late 14th century, asserting the civic authority of Visby. The overall strike is typical of hammered silver örtug coinage, with some weakness at the margins.
