Obverse description Central field occupied by bold Nasta'liq calligraphy arranged within a cartouche, bearing the name and titles of the emperor Shah Jahan. The inscription is surrounded by an ornate floral and foliate border composed of scrolling vines, blossoms, and berry clusters rendered in fine relief. A radiating pattern of short strokes frames the inner legend panel, and decorative dot-rosette ornaments punctuate the field throughout. The overall composition is characteristic of the refined artistic programme of Mughal imperial gold coinage.
