| Obverse description | The central field is occupied by a bold Nasta'liq inscription arranged in four panels divided by a horizontal and vertical rule, forming a cruciform layout. The legend records the kalima (Islamic profession of faith) along with the name and titles of the emperor Shah Jahan. An elaborate foliate scroll border in high relief frames the entire field, with intertwining floral and arabesque vine motifs characteristic of the high Mughal aesthetic. The legends fill the field completely, with the script rendered in a flowing, deeply struck calligraphic style. The rim is plain and slightly raised. |
