| Obverse description | Draped bust of King Carl XI facing right, with flowing hair, set within a circular Latin legend. A crowned oval countermark bearing the crowned royal cypher of Carl XII is applied to the lower field, partially overlapping the bust. The countermark, punched in 1705 by authority of the City of Riga, revalidates the host coin for emergency circulation. The legend encircles the effigy and reads CAROLVS XI D:G: REX SVE. |

| Reverse description | Three Swedish crowns arranged in triangular formation — two crowns in the upper field and one in the lower centre — the traditional heraldic emblem of the Swedish realm. The date of the host coin (e.g. 1688) is divided to the left and right of the upper crowns, while the denomination I M (1 Mark) appears in the lower field below the central crown. A mintmaster's initial mark appears in the exergue area. |
