Obverse description The coat of arms of San Marino occupies the central field, depicting the three towers of Monte Titano — Guaita, Cesta, and Montale — each surmounted by a torch flame, set upon a rocky outcropping above an open book. A mural crown appears above the shield. A sprig of laurel and oak is shown at the base. The circular legend REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO arcs along the upper periphery, while the motto LIBERTAS appears in the lower field beneath the central device.

Reverse description Two astronaut bootprints — rendered in fine incuse line detail to evoke the texture of a spacesuit sole — are depicted side by side against a stippled lunar surface field, commemorating the Moon landing. The date 1986 appears in the upper field above the prints. The denomination L.1 is inscribed in the lower field, with the mint mark R to the lower left and the engraver's signature Rossello to the right.
