Israel's 25th anniversary fell in 1973, the same year as the Yom Kippur War — Egypt and Syria launched a coordinated surprise attack on October 6th, during the holiest day of the Jewish calendar. The commemorative program had been planned well in advance of the war, and these coins entered circulation against that backdrop.
KM#68 is occasionally confused with the non-commemorative lira coinage of the same period, which shares similar dimensions and composition.
