Hieronymus von Colloredo is better remembered today as Mozart's employer and antagonist than as a monetary administrator — their relationship deteriorated so completely that Mozart formally requested his dismissal in 1781, receiving a literal kick from Colloredo's chamberlain Count Arco on the way out. The Archbishopric's copper issues of the late 1780s were produced against a backdrop of Josephinian reform pressure from Vienna, which was systematically eroding the ecclesiastical princes' autonomous authority throughout the Holy Roman Empire.
