Metro Vízmérőgyár Rt. — the Metro Water Meter Factory — was among the many Hungarian industrial firms forced to issue internal scrip during the hyperinflationary collapse of the early 1920s. The Hungarian korona was deteriorating rapidly by 1922, and factory-issued notes like this one served as wage tokens or canteen currency, allowing companies to pay workers in a medium that retained at least local purchasing power within the firm's own facilities.
