Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse displays a bold Kannada legend occupying the central field, reading 'ಶ್ರೀ ಕೃಷ್ಣರಾಯ' (Sri Krishnaraya), the regnal name and honorific of the emperor Krishnadevaraya. The characters are deeply struck in the Kannada script of the early sixteenth century, with individual aksharas arranged vertically within the flan. Flanking decorative elements and dot punctuation marks are visible in the field, consistent with Vijayanagara epigraphic conventions. The die work, though somewhat irregular due to the hammered technique, renders the royal legend in a clear and authoritative manner.

Aanvullende informatie

Krishnadevaraya's reign marked the political and cultural apex of the Vijayanagara Empire, a period when the empire controlled much of peninsular India and extracted enormous revenue from the spice trade passing through its ports. Small copper kasu served the everyday transactions that gold pagodas and silver fractions could not efficiently handle — markets, labor, petty commerce. The denomination existed largely beneath the documentary record, which is why die varieties within the type remain poorly catalogued despite reasonably frequent survivorship.
