Reverse description The Norwegian coat of arms — a crowned lion rampant holding an axe — is depicted over a long cross extending toward the coin's periphery, all set within the central field. The heraldic device is rendered in the crude but recognizable style typical of late 15th-century hammered coinage from Nidaros. A Latin legend encircles the design between two concentric pearl borders. The inscription SAN OLAVVS REX invokes Saint Olaf, the patron king and saint of Norway, affirming the religious and royal authority of the issuing crown.
