Additional information

Hans (Johan) ruled Norway as an absentee king for most of his reign, administering the kingdom largely through the Hanseatic-dominated council at Bergen. The hvid was a small-denomination fiduciary silver coin whose purchasing power had eroded steadily through the fifteenth century as successive debasements reduced actual silver content. Skaare 301 places this emission within Hans's long reign without pinning it to a specific year, which reflects genuine uncertainty in the documentary record — mint accounts from this period are fragmentary at best.
