Obverse description Central field bears a shield charged with a large cross, the arms of which extend to divide the surrounding legend. An inner beaded circle frames the shield, with a further beaded circle near the coin's edge; the inscription occupies the annular space between the two beaded rings. The design is executed in the bold, abbreviated style typical of late medieval Scandinavian hammered coinage, referencing the arms associated with Saint Olav as patron of the Norwegian realm.
