| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central device features the crowned arms of Leiden — a shield bearing two crossed keys, the traditional heraldic emblem of the city — set within an elaborate cartouche supported by foliate mantling. The shield is surmounted by a mural or civic crown. A beaded inner border separates the central armorial from the outer legend, which reads GODT * BEHOEDE * LEYDEN followed by the abbreviated authority inscription N × O × V × L × S × G × I × P × A × C, with mullet and rosette stops between words. The legends and devices, struck on a roughly prepared flan, reflect the exigent circumstances of production during the Spanish siege of 1574. |
