1 Grosz Obverse Trial

Trial strikes for the 1923 grosz series were produced as Poland worked to establish a stable coinage infrastructure following the catastrophic hyperinflation that had wiped out the Polish mark — by late 1923, the mark had collapsed to roughly 6.4 million per US dollar. The new złoty system, introduced through monetary reform in 1924, required advance die and planchet testing, which accounts for the existence of these obverse trials in off-specification weights.
