| Obverse description | Two standing figures face each other in the field: at left, the Doge Giovanni Gradenigo in ducal robes and corno ducale, and at right, St. Mark as bishop, nimbed and holding the Gospels, presenting a gonfalon (banner) to the Doge. The abbreviated title 'DVX' appears between the two figures. The circular legend reads IO • GRADOICO • S • M • VENETI •, identifying the Doge and the patron saint of Venice. The design follows the standard Venetian grosso typology established under Doge Enrico Dandolo. |
