背面描述 Two standing figures of the Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul face one another in full length, each holding the Gospels; St. Peter additionally holds the key of heaven in his right hand, while St. Paul bears a sword. The figures are rendered in a hieratic, stylized manner typical of early 15th-century Italian ecclesiastical coinage. A beaded border frames the design, with the surrounding legend identifying the saints and proclaiming Rome as the Holy City.

附加信息

Eugene IV — born Gabriele Condulmer — spent much of his pontificate not in Rome but in exile, driven out by a revolt in 1434 and forced to govern from Florence and then Bologna for nearly a decade. His coinage was issued under fractured political circumstances, with the papal mint operating under conditions that shifted as alliances with local Roman factions collapsed and reformed. The Grosso series under his name is consequently uneven in production consistency, and examples vary noticeably in flan quality.
