| Obverse description | Two standing figures face one another across a vertical staff or banner: at left, the Doge Andrea Dandolo in ducal regalia, and at right, the nimbate patron saint St. Mark, who presents the banner to the Doge. The word DVX appears in the field between the two figures. The peripheral legend reads . ANDR • DANDVLO • / • S • M • VENETI •, rendered in Gothic-style Latin lettering around the coin's circumference. The design follows the established Venetian grosso tradition introduced under Doge Enrico Dandolo, with both figures rendered in a flat, hieratic style characteristic of medieval Italian hammered coinage. |
