| Obverse description | A large ornate Gothic 'S', the initial of King Gustav Vasa, occupies the central field, rendered in bold relief within a beaded inner circle. The monogram is boldly stylized in the medieval manner characteristic of early Vasa coinage. Surrounding the beaded circle, a circular Latin legend runs the full circumference of the flan, separated by an ornate cross and pellet stops. The overall design is typical of early 16th-century Swedish hammered billon issues, with the irregular flan lending a characteristic rusticity to the strike. |
