| Obverse description | Full-length allegorical figure of Helvetia standing in left profile, draped in a classical toga, grasping an upright spear in her right hand while her left arm supports a heraldic shield bearing the Swiss cross. A border of 22 six-pointed stars encircles the design, symbolising the 22 cantons of the Swiss Confederation at the time of issue. The engraver's signature appears in the lower field. The composition, executed in high relief after Antoine Bovy's neoclassical design, conveys a dignified and monumental character befitting a national emblem. |
