Obverse description Central field depicts the enthroned Virgin Mary, crowned and nimbed, holding the Christ Child on her left arm within a beaded inner circle. Below the Madonna figure appears the quartered shield of the Livonian Order, featuring the cross and checkerboard arms, with no additional ornamentation on the shield face (smooth shield variety). The surrounding Gothic uncial legend reads WOLT · PLET · MAGIS · LIVO, identifying Wolter von Plettenberg as Magister of Livonia. The overall die-work is characteristic of early sixteenth-century Baltic hammered coinage.
