| Obverse description | Central quartered shield of the Livonian Order, displaying the Order's black cross alternating with lightning-bolt devices in the four quarters, all set within a beaded inner circle. The last two digits of the date (5 and 6) flank the shield laterally within the field, completing the full date 1556 with the first two digits incorporated into the surrounding legend. A circular Latin legend runs along the outer periphery, reading the Master's name and title. The design is struck in the hammered tradition, displaying the characteristic irregular flan shape typical of mid-16th-century Livonian coinage. |
