Obverse description Quarter section of a crowned facing royal effigy of King Henry II, struck as one-quarter of a full penny flan. The king is depicted with a frontal crowned bust, holding a sceptre to the left. The surrounding legend is fragmentary due to the quarter-cut format, rendered in Latin within the visible arc of the coin's circumference. The style is characteristic of the Short Cross coinage class 1b, with bold, slightly stylised regal portraiture typical of late 12th-century English hammered silver.
