Reverse description The reverse, designed by Luc Luycx, displays a stylised map of the European Union as it existed under its fifteen member states, positioned to the left of centre within the bimetallic field. The face value 1 EURO is inscribed prominently to the right of the map motif, with the designer's initials LL appearing discretely in the design. Twelve stars of the European Union are incorporated into the outer ring, framing the central cartographic design. The composition follows the standard common reverse design adopted by all eurozone member states for the first series of euro coinage.
