| Obverse description | Standing full-length figure of Saint Peter as Senator of the City, shown facing front in flowing robes, nimbed and crowned, holding a long staff or standard topped with a small figure in his right hand and the keys of heaven in his left. To his right, a kneeling figure in senatorial dress presents himself in an attitude of reverence, holding a sceptre. The scene is rendered in the Gothic hammered style typical of medieval Italian gold coinage. A beaded inner border frames the figures, with the Latin legend running along the outer rim. |
